When/where does the event take place?
The 2005 National Championship will played October 6-9 in Orlando, FL at Disney's Palm, Magnolia and Eagle Pines golf courses. For a printable map of the Disney World area, click here (pdf).

In what format will the event be played?
The tournament is a 72-hole, individual stroke play competition with a cut (top 20% plus ties) after 54 holes. USGA® rules are in effect at all times during play.

How do I qualify for the National Championship?
There are three ways a player can qualify for the National Championship. 1) Win your local flight points race, 2) place in the top 2 in your flight at a regional 2-day major event or 3) win your local tour championship finale.  If you are uncertain of your qualification status, contact your local tour director.

Where will the event registration be in Orlando?
All players MUST sign in/register for the National Championship sometime on Wednesday October 5th. Registration will take place Wednesday afternoon from 2-5pm at the Radisson World Gate Resort in their lobby area and 7-10:00pm at Radisson Conference Center for the registration party. All players must be pre-paid for the event by September 23rd. Contact the national office at 800 717 2248 or [email protected] with any questions.

Can I have a caddy?
Yes. Caddies are the responsibilities of the players and must abide by all USGA rules and maintain pace of play. With the majority of the field playing 3somes, please do not assume your caddy is permitted to ride on your cart and be respectful of your playing competitors.

Can I have a guest and/or an extra cart?
Guests are welcome on the course but must remain out of play and CANNOT offer advice or suggestions for competitors. Any guest requesting an extra cart should contact the course ahead of time to find out the cost and/or availability.

Which courses will we play on which days?
We don’t know until registration is completed. All players will play Palm and Magnolia at least once and depending on your flight, one of those courses a second time while others might play Eagle Pines as well. Sunday's final round will be held exclusively in the morning on the Palm/Magnolia courses.  All rounds should be completed by early-afternoon.

Where can I find tee times and pairings?
Once registration is closed (September 23rd), pairings will be posted online at least a week before the tournament starts. The first 3 days pairings will be posted. The final round pairings will be available after Saturday's round.

Can I request a friend to be paired up with?
No. With over 400 players, it would be impossible to honor such requests. All players will be paired up at random, within your flight.

What is the cost of skins and when will they be posted and paid out?
The skins games will only apply for the first three rounds of the tournament. The cost is $20/day ($60 total) for In-flight skins and $10/day ($30 total) for Giant skins for a total of $90. Players may choose to participate in either game or both. In-Flight skins are skins (lowest score NOT birdie or better) against players within your own flight. Giant skins are against everyone playing the course you are on that day (lowest score NOT birdie or better). For those interested in participating in the skins games, you must pay by CASH ONLY before the start of play on Thursday - NO EXCEPTIONS. Skins will be paid out the next day as a player registers at his/her course. If you win a skin on Saturday and are not at the course on Sunday, your skin money will be mailed to you within a weeks’ time after conclusion of the event.

What happens if no one wins a skin for a day?
If not one skin is won for a single day, (eg, if there is no Super Skin paid out for Thursday or no skins are won by an individual flight) the monies for that day will be carried over to the following days skins and added to the pot. If no skins are won on the last day of skins play, Saturday then all players involved in that skins pot will be placed into a drawing and three (3) players names will be drawn and the pot will be divided by 3 and each players whose name is drawn, will be awarded 1/3 of the total pot.

What are the payouts for flight winners?
Payout for the top finishers will be based on the number of players in each flight and will consist of online gift certificates, products and entries intto future events. Prizes and flight ranges are subject to change and include but are not limited to:

How are Senior Flights determined?
Senior flights are open to all players 50 years of age or older as of the start of play on Thursday, September 30th. A flight MUST HAVE a minimum of 8 players to be considered a flight. If there are less than 8 players in any senior flight, the members will compete in the mid-am flights and will participate in the mid-am prize pool. The low senior in that flight will win a separate trophy for being low senior, but will be awarded prizes based on his/her place of finish in the mid-am flight.  If you are NOT designated as a senior player on the website, please contact your local director/national office and let them know you are competing as a senior.

Will there be Super Senior Flights?

(Note: Women will be playing from the tees that correspond to their flight regardless of where they played from during the regular season in their respective city.)

What happens in the event of a tie?
If after 4 rounds of play, if any players are tied for 1st place in their respective flight, a sudden death playoff will take place, continuing for as many holes are necessary until a winner is declared. Whichever player records the lowest score first, will win 1st place prizes/awards. The rules committee will dictate which hole(s) the playoff will be conducted on and oversee the playoff. Ties for subsequent places will be based on the USGA® method for matching scorecards (back 9, last 6, last 3, etc.).

Where are the parties taking place?
The National Championship Registration party is at The Radisson World Gate conference center from 7:00pm to 10:00pm on Wednesday, October 5th. The buffet is complimentary for members and guests are welcome for $15 per person.

For a map to the Radisson World Gate, click HERE or call (407) 396-1400.

The National Championship Raffle Prize Party will be held from 7:30pm to 9:30pm on Friday, October 7th. The site is yet to be determined (The MUGT does not provide food at this event).

How many players will be playing in each pairing?
We will be utilizing threesomes whenever possible to encourage a standard pace of play. In some instances there may be foursomes or even twosomes if a player does not show up. We will be using split tees both courses in the morning and afternoon of each round Thursday - Saturday. Sundays round will be made up of mostly foursomes with all groups teeing up in the am.

When and where is the awards presentation?
All awards will be presented at the Palm/Magnolia scoreboard area immediately following the completion of each flight on Sunday, October 9th.

Will there be a consolation round for players that don’t make the cut?
No. However, players can make their own arrangements to play any course on their own.

How do I book a practice round?
If you are planning on playing a practice round on Wednesday, October 5th, call the courses (Palm, Magnolia and Eagle Pines) directly at (407) 938 3868 and mention you are with the MUGT.  The rate is $75/person, payable to the golf course when you arrive for your tee time.

What happens if the event has rain and/or weather delays?
The MUGT Staff will do everything possible to get all holes completed for the event, however if the course is unplayable or dangerous lightning is eminent, the event may be reduced to a shortened number of holes.  We will do everything possible to get all 72 holes completed but all players should check with the staff in case changes to tee times and events change.

Does the Tour look at players to ensure proper flighting?
The MUGT National Office will look at every competitor’s index using the National Golf Network’s system and their scores that they shot on tour this season.  If a player’s index falls outside the guidelines for his/her flight, we will contact the local director and the player to inform them of the flight change.  We will cut-off the index calculations as of August 15 2005, meaning that if a player’s index changes with a September update, they will not be re-flighted.  We will have all players’ index computations available for peer review at the national championship scoring area.

What are the transportation/parking details for the event?
Each player is responsible for his/her own transportation to and from the courses during the event. Both Palm and Magnolia golf courses share one parking lot, and it WILL NOT accommodate 300 cars (shotgun starts). We STRONGLY URGE players to carpool to the courses from their hotels. If/when we get details on any overflow contingency plans, we will update this section as soon as possible.

Can I use a rangefinder during the event?
The tournament committee has made a decision to allow use of GPS on the golf carts to assist with pace of play and any possible inclement weather scenario. Having made that decision, it is also permissible for competitors to use a rangefinder during the event as well.
